Outlook Live.edu email setup for Verizon Motorola Droid?

12/23/09 02:01 PM

I'm sure this has been asked before, but I am desperate to find out how to get my Outlook Live email account setup on my new Verizon Motorola Droid.  This is my email from my university.  Any help would be a huge relief.  All my other emails have been setup but this one will not let me.  Please Help!!!  Thanks and Happy Holidays!

It looks like the Droid phone has some kind of ActiveSync software on it, so you might take a look at the following articles, and see if maybe they help.  The first article shows using a server name of m.outlook.com.  If you look at the bottom of the second article, you'll see that on certain iPhones, you have to use a different server name.  This may apply to your Droid phone.

If that doesn't help, you can always set up the phone for POP or IMAP access.

Piece of cake.  I have a Motorola Droid and it connected right up for me.  Go into Email, Add account...

Email Address:  <FullEmailAddress>

Password:   <Password>

Tap Next

Tap Exchange account

Set the following fields correctly (x below means checkmark):

Domain\Username:    \<FullEmailAddress>

Password:    <Password>

Exchange Server:   m.outlook.com

x Use Secure Connection (SSL)

x Accept All SSL certificates

Tap Next

I tried your suggestion and it keeps telling me my username or password is bincorrect but if it were I wouldn't be logged onto here right now. My school email is through outlook but ends in students.fscj.edu How can I get this to work on my droid?

I have the same situation.  Can;t get this to work on my droid.  Not problems with my other email account, but through my .edu windows live account, I keep getting an error message of username or password incorrect.

It works, but You have to choose exchange account.  This is where I got confused.  I tried POP3, IMAP, then the last.....exchange.  This is where it worked.  Thanks!

Be sure you are using your full email address (a.k.a. your windows live id) as your username.  If you just put the name in front of the @ sign in your email address, you will not be able to get it to work no matter what you try.  Read the instructions i posted above in this thread carefully.  I was careful to make them accurate while I set up an outlook live account on my own motorola droid successfully.

Sorry, I should have looked at my own instructions again before posting.  Be sure to include the backslash (\) before your full email address.  Basically, it is in Domain\Username format, but you leave the domain blank.

\<FullEmailAddress>

For jonejl19, assuming your email address is jonejl19@students.fscj.edu, you would enter the following as your username:

\jonejl19@students.fscj.edu

Hope this helps.

I can confirm that the 2nd posters technique worked for me. I set up my school email which is like this (firstname.lastname@student.shu.edu) I used these steps after about 8 hours of searching for the past 2 days but it finally worked so i'm going to substitute in what I used:

"Piece of cake.  I have a Motorola Droid and it connected right up for me.  Go into Email, Add account...

Email Address:  myschoolaccount@student.shu.edu was what i used (just to show it is an edu account)

Password:   I forgot what I used, so I reset my password through my computer in outlook itself to be absolutely sure I know what it is.

Tap Next

Tap Exchange account

Set the following fields correctly (x below means checkmark):

Domain\Username:    \mailaccount@student.shu.edu is exactly what I used. slash followed by the full email

Password:  I made sure what I typed here was the same as above

Exchange Server:   m.outlook.com

-----I checked both of these options:

x Use Secure Connection (SSL)

x Accept All SSL certificates

Tap Next"

It may take awhile playing around to make sure everything is correct, but I did get it to correctly function. I can send and receive my email through my school account. I tested by sending one to myself through the droid.

-HUGE Thanks to the 2nd guy for providing these steps!

After a lot of trail and error i found a solution that should work for everyone.

1. sign into outlook live beta via internet browser

2. click the small arrow next to the help icon

3. select "About" option from the drop down

4. scroll down a bit to the POP, IMAP, and SMTP server settings.  use this information to fill in the options on your phone.

i know this works for droid email, and it should work for iphone as well.  pretty straight forward once you have this info. i used the external pop settings.  also, if you arent overly worried about security select SSL (accept all certificates).  mine didnt work as just SSL. still pretty secure tho so no worries.

This made a big difference. I spent hours trying everything. I read someones post who changed their password and it went right through. UGH! This was a very stressful process.
